An Experimental Study on Body Image Changes in Cardiac Children Who Were Performed Therapeutic Play before and after Surgery

Abstract
Main purpose of this study is to identify the differences of body area, proportion, trunk area, erasures and placement between healthy normal children and the children with the congenital heart disease or the children with the congenital heart disease who performed doll play during the pre- and post operative period.
The criteria for the choice of subjects were the children without mental retardation; age ranged from 6 through 12.
Of these subjects, by random sampling, Fourteen cardiac children did not perform doll play and the other fourteen cardiac children did.
Fourteen healthy normal children and 28 cardiac children who were hospitalized Seoul National University Hospital during the period from May 1 to October 7,,,1981 were chosen as subject for this study.
1. The results of this study reviewed in a statistical analysis of the t-test to obtain the following findings:
1) Self figure drawings of the children with congenital heart disease showed significantly smaller than those of the healthy children.
2) There were no significant differences between pre-and post-operative self-figure drawings.
3) Except general quality score, there were no significant differences between pre-and post-operative self figure drawings in the experimental group.
4) The general quality score of post operative self figure drawings was lower than that of pre-operative self figure drawings in the experimental group.
2. The placement of the post-operative self figure drawings of two groups, control and experimental group, tend to move into center on the drawing page.
